New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has approved the transfer of 5 acres of land in Okhla for development of the first wet waste to bio- compressed natural gas (CNG) plant at Okhla.

Moreover, the Okhla bio-CNG plant is likely to be operational by March 2024.

Municipal Corporation Delhi (MCD) signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the plant with South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) in December 2021. As per MoU, SDMC has provided land for the project while MCD will provide segregated wet waste to the plant.

MCD is executing the bio-CNG plant project along with Indo Enviro Integrated Solutions Limited. The plant will have the capacity to process 300 tonnes per day (tpd) wet waste to produce bio CNG/ compressed biogas (CBG) which will further be expanded to 500 tpd. The gas produced will be used as fuel in vehicles and as cooking gas in nearby households.
