In a notable development, GAIL (India) Limited has completed installation of 3.82 km pipeline across Mahanadi river in Odisha by horizontal directional drilling (HDD) technique under the Srikakulam-Angul Natural Gas Pipeline Project.

The project, being implemented by GAIL, involves construction of a 400 km long pipeline that will pass through Ichchapuram (Andhra Pradesh), Brahmpur (Odisha), Aska (Odisha) and Nayagarh (Odisha). The proposed capacity of the pipeline is 5 million metric standard cubic metre per day (mmscmd) from Srikakulam to Brahmpur and 4.5 mmscmd from Brahmpur to Angul. It will be connected to Andhra Pradesh Gas Distribution Corporation (APGDC)’s Kakinada-Srikakulam pipeline at Srikakulam and with GAIL’s Jagdishpur-Haldia-Bokaro-Dhamra gas pipeline at Angul.
