The Union Government laid the foundation stone for development of four compressed bio-gas (CBG) plants at Guwahati, Jorhat, Sivasagar and Tinsukia in Assam.
These will be established either through investments from public sector units (PSU) or under a public private partnership (PPP) model.
The plants are being developed by Oil India Limited (OIL) as part of Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) and GOBARdhan Scheme. Each plant will have the capacity to treat 125 tonnes per day (tpd) waste for production of around two tpd CBG. Additionally, OIL is planning to establish about 25 CBG plants by 2025.
