Around ten compressed biogas (CBG) plants are likely to come up in ten districts of Kerala. Government of Kerala (GoK) will set up these plants in association with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and GAIL (India) Limited.

BPCL will construct the CBG plant at Brahmapuram in Kochi while plants in other nine districts are likely to be constructed either by BPCL and GAIL.

GoK will provide land, water and electricity for the plants while the construction cost will be borne by BPCL and GAIL. The plants will have capacity to process 100 tonnes per day (tpd) waste which will be further expanded to 250 tpd.

However, Pathanamthitta, Kasaragod, Idukki and Wayanad districts have been excluded as the districts do not have enough waste to run the plant.
