Government of Gujarat (GoG) is planning to add 20,000 new household biogas plants in 2026-27 under the Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (GOBARdhan) scheme.
The plants are likely to be developed with support of state’s extensive dairy cooperative network, Amul, Banas Dairy, Dudhsagar Dairy and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
The plan is likely to be implemented under a cluster based approach, in two phases, first phase covering 7,423 plants across 38 clusters, supported by NDDB, Amul, Banas Dairy and Dhudhsagar Dairy. Second phase aims to add 10,000 plants across 50 clusters, amongst which about 7,000 plants are likely to be developed in partnership with the Gujarat Cooperative Milk.
About 14,000 biogas are operational around 88 clusters in the state.
Under the expansion, livestock farmers are likely to receive financial assistance of about Rs 25,000 per plant through the Swachh Bharat Mission.
