Government of Tamil Nadu (GoTN) is targeting complete conversion of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders users to piped natural gas (PNG) by 2031.

Currently, around 17,000 LPG connections have been converted to PNG in the state.

Torrent Gas Private Limited has laid around 95 km steel pipeline and 69 km polyethylene (PE) pipeline network in the state. It has been authorised by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) to lay compressed natural gas (CNG) and PNG infrastructure in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Telangana and union territory of Puducherry.
