In a notable development, Shell India commenced operations of its small-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply with a truck-loading unit at its LNG import terminal at Hazira in Gujarat. The truck-loading unit will augment Shell’s natural gas supply offerings in India to include the supply of LNG through trucks. Moreover, the unit is expected to boost the availability of natural gas in off-grid areas and promote the use of LNG in long-haul trucking.

The government has been promoting the use of natural gas through various policy and regulatory reforms in order to raise the share of natural gas in India’s primary energy mix to 15 per cent from the current level of 6.2 per cent. Small-scale LNG is expected to play a vital role in achieving this target as it ensures access to clean energy across the country.
