To produce bio-Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) from domestic waste generated on a daily basis, a 550 metric ton (MT) mega plant has been set up in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Indore. The plant is capable of generating 18,000 kg of bio-CNG per day. In addition to this, it can also generate 100 tons of compost from the remaining waste. The bio-CNG produced will be used to power Indore Municipal Corporation’s transport buses as well as a large quantity of compost. The plant has been set up on a public-private partnership model and is India’s first project where the domestic organic waste would produce more than 17,000 kg of bio-CNG.
