Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is planning to expand its Compressed Biogas (CBG) generation and waste processing capacity by 13,550 tonnes per day (tpd) by 2028.

It is planning to set up 3,000 tpd waste to energy and CBG facility at Narela, 2,000 tpd plant at Ghazipur, CBG plant at Okhla and Ghazipur, expansion of waste to energy plants by 1,000 tpd at Okhla and Tehkhand, and would be implemented in phases from 2026 to 2028, the capacity is expected to increase from 7,841 tpd to 21,000 tpd.

Besides, it plans to add five new waste processing facilities with a combined capacity of 5,900 tpd at Bhalswa, Shinghola, Okhla, Bawana and Ghazipur and to increase capacity by 9,000 tpd by December 2027.

The union territory generates 14,000 metric tonnes of solid waste every day, but the current capacity is 7,841 tpd which leaves a processing gap of about 6,000 metric tonnes.
