Bengal Gas Company Limited (BGCL) a joint venture (JV) of Gas Authority of India Limited and Greater Calcutta Gas Supply Corporation Limited (GCGSCL) is likely to submit a detailed plan to seek permission from Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) for laying Piped Natural Gas (PNG) pipeline across nine stretches.
The company is likely to expand the PNG infrastructure in KMC area at an estimated cost of Rs 7.75 billion. Additionally, it is planning to lay 30 km of main steel pipeline across nine stretches in the first phase and develop a blueprint to construct about 600 km of medium density polyethylene (mdpe) pipe to provide last mile connectivity (lmc) to households in the subsequent phase.
BGCL has constructed the main steel pipeline from Chingrihata to Baruipur, and it has begun construction of PNG pipeline from Kalikapur to Jadavpur. The company is likely to start PNG supply in Chandernagore by August 2026. It laid one PNG connection in Kalyani in November 2025 in Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) area, along with 862 gas metres and one PNG connection in Debanandapur gram panchayat in June 2026.
