The Karnal industrial area will receive the supply of the piped natural gas (PNG) in the first week of November as the laying of pipelines from Panipat to Karnal city as well as the industrial area has been completed. Besides, the testing work of the lines has also been completed.

In 2019, the National Green Tribunal had directed the industries in the Delhi-National Capital Region to switch to use of PNG by August 2019. The work to lay pipeline for PNG supply was assigned by the government to Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL).

IGL has successfully laid the PNG pipelines in Sector 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13 and a part of Sector 13 extension along with industrial area in Sector 3. In addition, 10 compressed natural gas filing stations have been established. The works were started in March 2019, with an initial deadline of March 2020. However, it was delayed on account of Covid-induced lockdown, according to IGL.
