Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has begun laying the underground natural gas pipeline of up to 75 km length in Coimbatore district. Under the project, the company plans to lay underground gas pipeline for 212 km, develop 273 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations and provide domestic piped natural gas (PNG) to more than 0.9 million households. IOCL won the license for city gas distribution (CGD) network in Coimbatore in the ninth bidding round held in August 2018. The company also has plans to expand the CNG network in Coimbatore to 41 stations by end of March 2023.
