Owing to lower domestic output and a sharp drop in pricey imports, India’s natural gas consumption declined by nine per cent in September 2022, year on year basis.
The domestic production of natural gas fell by 1.7 per cent while imports dropped by 16.3 per cent as compared to September 2021. Meanwhile, consumption of natural gas during the six months through September has dropped by 4.7 per cent from September 2021.
Many industrial users are switching to more affordable liquid fuels on account of high prices of natural gas. GAIL had to cut supplies to several industries, including fertiliser makers owing to disruption in liquid natural gas supply from Russia’s Gazprom.
