The increasing cost of fuel and expensive electric vehicles are making way for compressed natural gas (CNG) to pose as an alternate fuel for mobility of Indian consumers. CNG vehicle sales grew by 55 per cent in 2021-22, from about 171,288 vehicle units in 2020-21 to 265,383 in 2021-22. Improvement in CNG fueling infrastructure and other supporting regulatory facilities have helped in the growth of CNG vehicles in the country. Original equipment manufacturers have also been concentrating at bringing cost and fuel efficient CNG technology in the country at a fast pace.
