In a first of its kind initiative, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has introduced the first long range CNG buses in India. As the interstate travel restrictions to contain the spread of the pandemic have eased, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) flagged country’s first long range compressed natural gas (CNG) bus at Metcalfe House CNG Station in New Delhi.

These long range CNG would be commuting on Delhi – Dehradun route in co-ordination with Uttarakhand Transport Corporation. They have light weight Type IV cylinders which can carry 200-250 kg of CNG, thereby, covering a distance of up to 900 km in a single fill.

Typically, the long haul buses coming from various cities to Delhi are run on diesel. However, the introduction of these buses is expected to give a boost to interstate CNG-based long haul transport and reduce the carbon footprints along with.
