Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is planning to set up three biogas plants at Manali, Shollinganallur and Koyambedu by February 2024.

The plants will have the capacity to process 500 tonnes, 200 tonnes and 200 tonnes waste, respectively.

Currently, there are two operational biogas plants at Chetpet and Madhavaram producing around 6 tonnes per day (tpd) biogas. With this, these are likely to process around 30 per cent of waste generated in the city.
