In a notable development, the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) has commenced supplying compressed natural gas (CNG) to Indian Oil Corporation’s (IOCL) city gas distribution (CGD) system from Walayar to Coimbatore through its Kochi- Koottanad-Bengaluru-Mangaluru natural gas pipeline project (KKBMPL). While the first stretch of 96 km from Kochi to Koottanad was commissioned in June 2019, the 450-km natural gas pipeline between Kochi and Mangaluru was inaugurated in January 2021. In addition to this, the pipeline bifurcating from Koottanad is expected to have 24-inch width each to Bengaluru and to Mangaluru.
