According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, sales of compressed natural gas (CNG) powered cars in India accounted for 8.6 per cent of total sales in the automotive sector in 2021-22 as against 6.3 per cent in2020-21. This is majorly because of the low cost of fuel ownership as compared to the increasing prices of petrol and diesel. CNG sales for Passenger Vehicles (PV) has been 54 per cent more in FY 2022 than in FY 2021. Meanwhile, sale of CNG has been 12.1 per cent more in the passenger car segment and 4.1 per cent more in the Utility Vehicle (UV) segment in FY 2022 as against FY 2021.
