City gas distribution (CGD) companies are looking to expand their retail business through mobile refuelling units (MRUs). This comes after oil marketing companies have continuously refused to lower commissions for letting CGD companies use their premises for selling compressed natural gas (CNG). Mubai-based Mahanagar Gas Limited and Delhi’s Indraprastha Gas Limited have started piloting MRUs and are also inviting expressions of interests for setting up more units.

MTUs are used for refuelling and can be set up at parking lots, open parks and land parcels approved by local authorities. These units help in effectively reaching out to customers and facilitate expansion plans of CGD companies by offering an economical alternative to setting up a CNG outlet that requires huge investment.
