The Union Government is planning to set up 5,000 Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants by 2030.
About 132 CBG plants are operational and 240 are under construction.
It is likely to support India’s 2047 development goals and its net-zero target for 2070. Wider CBG production would reduce cost, pollution, carbon dioxide emission and dependence on crude oil and gas.
The government plans to reduce dependence on imports by converting biomass into biogas using indigenous technology.
