The Union government is planning to provide around 125 million piped natural gas (PNG) connections by 2030 in both rural and urban areas.
The number of PNG connections has increased from 2.5 million in 2014 to 12.1 million in March 2024.
Currently, there are 300 geographic areas (GA) authorised by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) covering around 88 per cent of the country’s geographical area and 98 per cent of its population across 630 districts in 28 states. Besides, as of January 2024, around 10,000 km gas pipeline has been laid.
