Bio- compressed natural gas (CNG) plant is likely to come up in Madurai, Tamil Nadu on design build finance operate transfer (DBFOT) basis.
Recently, the department of municipal administration accorded administrative approval to the Madurai corporation for setting up the plant near Vellaikal dumpyard.
The plant will have the capacity to process 250 tonnes per day (tpd) wet waste and will be established under Swachh Bharat Mission entailing an investment of Rs 0.65 billion.
Madurai generates 750 tpd to 800 tpd waste, with about 350 tonnes being wet waste. Of this, 250 tonnes of wet waste are directed to micro-composting centers, while around 100 tonnes would be supplied to the proposed plant for production of bio-CNG.
