Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) along with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to set up Asia’s largest compressed biogas (CBG) plant in Mumbai. The plant will entail an investment of Rs 5 billion.
In June 2023, MGL and BMC had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to set up the CBG plant. The plant having capacity to process 1,000 tonnes per day (tpd) waste for production of 40 tpd CBG will utilize deep segregated food and vegetable waste as feedstock.
While MGL will bear the entire cost of the project, BMC will provide land for the plant.
