In a recent development, the union government inaugurated a Smart Gas Meter Manufacturing Facility set up by Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) Genesis Technologies Limited (IGTL) in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
It targets production of one million gas meters a year, including smart and prepaid meters. Production is expected to commence in October 2025. The facility has been built to meet Industry 4.0 standards and features robotics, automation, and digital manufacturing systems. Moreover, the meters have been designed for domestic gas use patterns, diverse climate conditions, and has a durability of around 10 years without the loss of accuracy. The move is expected aid in making the country self-reliant in the manufacturing of gas metres.
