The Andhra Pradesh government has laid the foundation stone for development of compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Kanigiri in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. 

The plant, being developed by Reliance Industries Limited at an estimated cost of Rs 1.39 billion, would utilise Napier grass to produce CBG. 

Besides, it is the first of 500 such plants to be developed in Andhra Pradesh entailing total investment of Rs 650 billion to produce 40 lakh tonnes of green clean CBG and 1.1 million tonnes of organic fertiliser annually. These plants will be developed on around 500,000 acres of barren and waste lands in Prakasam, Anantapur, Chittoor, and Kadapa.
