As per the Indian Biogas Association, around 5,000 compressed biogas (CBG) plants are likely to come up by 2030 at an investment of Rs 1,750 billion.

Recently, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has planned to install 100 CBG plants across the country within the next five years, thus shifting towards greener energy sources. Besides, Adani Total Gas Limited (ATGL) intends to set up 5 CBG plants over a period of five years.

Moreover,  letters of intent have been issued by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for the establishment of CBG plants.
