Tamil Nadu’s first compressed natural gas (CNG) retail outlet has been commissioned at Nagapattinam by Torrent Gas Private Limited (TGPL). The station is co-located at a retail outlet run by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Porvacheri. TGPL has tied up with GAIL (India) Limited for supply of CNG through the city gate station located at Thirumarugal.

TGPL has also tied up with IOCL for use of its retail outlets to start more CNG stations. According to TGPL, it will commence operations at two more CNG stations in four months’ time. In all, it aims to open 12 CNG stations by March 2022 in the region. The retail price of CNG in Nagapattinam has been placted at Rs 60 per kg.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board has authorised TGPL to provide natural gas in Karaikal, Nagapattinam, Chennai and Tiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu.
