In Tamil Nadu, around 21 more districts will soon be witnessing initiation of work to lay lines for supplying piped natural gas (PNG) to homes and industries as well as for the construction of retail outlets for selling compressed natural gas (CNG) to be used in vehicles. In the eleventh round of tendering of GAs held by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), four companies have won the bids for covering these districts, with all districts in the state covered under city gas distribution network. Currently, the state has over 50 CNG outlets, and the Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) will be covering nine districts through the recently acquired GAs, including Madurai, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, and Theni.
