The Government of Uttar Pradesh (GoUP) has inaugurated Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited’s (HPCL) compressed biogas (CBG) plant in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. It entailed an investment of Rs 1.33 billion.
The plant would process 100 metric tonnes per day (tpd) rice straw to produce 14 metric tpd CBG along with 65 metric tpd solid manure. The plant set up over an area of 55 acres includes raw material receipt and storage facility, CBG process section and associated utilities, CBG cascade filling shed, solid manure storage and bagging facility. Praj Industries Limited has licensed the technology for CBG production.
The plant aligns with the National Biofuel Policy 2018. Under this, the government aims to reduce import dependency by 10 per cent while focussing on second-generation (2G) bio-refineries and CBG plants.
