State government has accorded approval to GAIL (India) Limited for establishing 150 tonnes per day (tpd) compressed bio-gas (CBG) plant in Goa.

While GAIL initially proposed setting up the plant at Verna, the government decided to identify an alternative site for the project.

GAIL has also suggested entering into a concession agreement with the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) for a period of at least 25 years, ensuring uninterrupted supply of segregated organic municipal waste and leasing the required land at a nominal cost during this period.

Additionally, for the project to be viable, it has stated that the plant should produce at least 5 tpd of CBG, requiring approximately 10 acres of land and 150 tpd of segregated organic municipal waste.

While GAIL would cover the costs of infrastructure connectivity, such as roads, power, water supply, and sewerage, at the plant site, it seeks GWMC’s assistance in obtaining the necessary permissions and clearances for the project.
