Global energy giant Shell has plans of foraying into retailing liquified natural gas (LNG) for long-haul transportation with its first filling station that is set to come up in Gujarat in 2022. The company operates a five million tonnes-a-year LNG import facility at Hazira in Gujarat and has a small network of petrol pumps. It is now looking at LNG for the long-haul transportation market as a growth avenue. Moreover, the company has projected India to be one of the fastest-growing markets for LNG in the world and expects nearly 35 to 40 million tonnes of LNG demand growth in India for the period between 2020 and 2040 alone.
