On April 30, 2022, price of compressed natural gas (CNG) increased by Rs 4 to cost Rs 76 per kg in and around Mumbai. However, the prices of domestic piped natural gas (PNG) gas have been left unchanged. This is the third price hike in CNG price by Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) since April 2022. On April 6, 2022, MGL had increased the price of CNG and PNG by Rs 7 and Rs 5 per kg, respectively. On April 12, the price was again increased by Rs 5 a kg for CNG and by Rs 4.50/SCM for domestic PNG. The Central Government has increased the supply price of gas by 110 per cent of state-owned Oil Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Oil India. This is leading to an increase in cost of gas being procured by MGL, further leading to an increase in price of CNG.
