The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) is planning to establish around 17,751 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations by 2032. Besides, it is also likely to provide 125 million domestic piped natural gas (PNG) connections along with laying 542,224 inch-km pipeline.

About 6,159 CNG stations have been established and 12 million domestic PNG connections have been provided till November 2023.

PNGRB has authorised 300 geographical areas (GAs) covering about 98 per cent of the population and 88 per cent of the total geographical area (GA) for the development of the city gas distribution (CGD) network.
