The world is rapidly moving towards a gas-based economy, a comparatively cleaner source of power generation. The country’s aim is to increase the share of gas in the total energy mix from 6 per cent currently to around 15 per cent by 2030. The government has placed special emphasis on the CGD sector, which has been evident in the success of the ninth and tenth CGD bidding rounds. In one of the major announcements, the Union Cabinet has recently approved capital funding to Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) for setting up the Northeast natural gas pipeline grid.
