Purba Bharati Gas Private Limited (PBGPL) is likely to commence piped natural gas (PNG) supply at Guwahati in February 2024. Around 65,000 PNG connections will be provided in the first phase covering Geeta Nagar, Narengi, Sixmile, Borbari, Panjabari, Satgaon, Hatigaon, Beltola, Jayanagar, Khanapara, Bonda and Hengerabari.

Moreover, Ganeshguri, Kahilipara, Christianbasti, Ulubari, Bhangagarh, Bamunimaidam, Noonmati and Uzan Bazaar would be covered under Phase-II while Boko, Mirza, Azara, Ranagia, Sonapur, Rampur and Chhaygaon would be equipped with PNG connectivity under Phase-III by financial year (FY) 2025-26.

PBGPL is planning to provide around 0.32 million PNG connections in Guwahati in the next eight years at an investment of Rs 26 billion. The city is likely to be linked with the national gas grid post commissioning of Barauni- Guwahati natural gas pipeline.

PBGPL, a joint venture (JV) company of Assam Gas Company Limited, Oil india Limited (OIL) and GAIL Gas Limited (GGL) has been authorised by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) to lay, build, operate and expand city gas distribution (CGD) infrastructure in Silchar, Hailakandi, Kamrup and Kamrup Metro geographical area (GA) in the state of Assam.
