With diesel-run autorickshaws and old buses banned in the city, the sales of compressed natural gas (CNG) in Patna have increased by 9.1 per cent. In addition to this, several vehicle owners have shifted to CNG due to a rise in diesel and petrol prices. It is worth noting that the CNG sales have increased from 50,000 kg to 55,000 kg per day in March 2022 to 60,000 kg per day (as of April 16, 2022). At present, CNG is being sold at the rate of Rs. 72.96 per kg in Patna. The daily consumption of CNG is expected to increase with more CNG buses and auto rickshaws operating in the days to come. Many private operators are also replacing diesel-run minibuses with CNG buses. Till now, 19 CNG stations have been functional in the city and one more is set to come up in Anisabad within a month. Further, 10 more CNG stations are to be set up by April 2023.
