In a notable development, Oil India Limited (OIL) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation have signed an agreement for the development of waste to biogas plant at Nayapalli in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
OIL would undertake the construction activities of the plant for two years. Besides, the housing and urban development has provided eight acres of land for the project.
The plant will initially have the capacity to process 200 tonnes per day (tpd) wet waste for production of biogas with provisions to expand capacity by an additional 100 tpd.
Bhubaneswar generates around 380 tpd wet waste. Out of which, 120 tonnes undergo scientific processing at 37 micro composting centres (MCCs) to produce organic compost, while the remaining 260 tonnes are processed through traditional methods at the windrow composting centre.
