The Indian economy is expected to witness eight per cent year-on-year growth, i.e., around 34,949 million standard cubic meters (mscm) in natural gas consumption in the current calendar year (CY). As per International Energy Agency’s gas market report (for first quarter of 2022), in 2021, the natural gas demand in the country is likely to have grown by five per cent on an annual basis. For the CY 2021, the country’s natural gas demand stood at 32,360 mscm. Further, it is expected that natural gas consumption will grow in the current CY backed by strong gross domestic product growth projects, supportive government policy, and infrastructure expansion.
