During the month of September 2024, the gross domestic production of natural gas stood at 2,977 million metric standard cubic meters (mmscm), recording a decrease of 1.6 per cent over the corresponding month of the previous year. Natural gas available for sale during the month was 5,411 mmscm, registering an increase of 5.8 per cent over September 2023. The net production of gas for sale during the month stood at 83.3 per cent of gross production for consuming sectors like power, fertilizer, city gas distribution (CGD), refinery and petrochemicals. Meanwhile, the total consumption was 5,752 mmscm with major consumers comprising of fertiliser industry (29 per cent), city gas distribution (CGD) (20 per cent), power (12 per cent), refineries (8 per cent) and petrochemicals (4 per cent). The domestic gas consumption by the CGD sector stood at 5,102 mmscm whereas R-LNG consumption by the sector stood at 2,363 mmscm.
The Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has released the monthly report on production, availability and consumption of natural gas in the country during September 2024. The report highlights the monthly gross domestic production of natural gas, net domestic production of gas for sale, liquefied natural gas imports and sectoral consumption of natural gas.
