In a notable development, LR Energy has commissioned compressed biogas (CBG) plant in Karnal, Haryana.

The plant would utilise sugar industry waste and agricultural residue as feedstock for production of 2,000 metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) CBG and 9,000 mtpa fermented organic manure.

The plant was established under the sustainable alternative towards affordable transportation (SATAT) initiative of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) to equip the country with clean and green energy.

In October 2018, MoPNG launched the SATAT initiative in order to establish an ecosystem for production of CBG from waste, biomass and promoting its use along with natural gas.
