Singapore-based company, LNG Alliance, together with the Karnataka government, has proposed to develop a liquid natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Mangalore. With an initial capacity of 4 million metric tons per year (mtpa), LNG Alliance is expected to take the final investment decision for the recently announced project by December 2022. The terminal’s capacity can later be expanded to 8 mtpa in line with projected demand growth over the next twenty years.

With eight truck-loading bays, the terminal will also be open for third-party access, providing the most competitive tolling rates in India based on the LNG sourced from LNG Alliance’s supply partners. The company intends on investing $290 million for developing, constructing, and operating the terminal. The relevant engineering , procurement and construction contracts will be awarded by November 2022.
