Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) is planning to set up a bio compressed natural gas (CNG) plant on public private partnership (PPP) mode. Memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the same is likely to be signed soon.
The plant will have the capacity to process 300 metric tonnes. This bio-CNG will be cheaper by about Rs 5 per kg from the market. Besides, proposals are being sought under the PPP mode for setting up a 10 MW capacity plant to generate electricity from waste.
Lucknow generates about 2,000 metric tonnes of waste every day. Out of this, about 50 per cent is wet waste which can be turned into manure. It can also be used for making CNG.
