In a major development, Indian railways (IR) has modified the 1,400 HP engine to enable it to run on both diesel and compressed natural gas (CNG). For this, IR has used the fumigation technology. The newly modified passenger train consumes over 20 per cent of CNG while covering a distance of 81-km in two hours.

The train consists of two power cars and six car coaches which were manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai. Meanwhile, the CNG conversion kit has been supplied by Cummins India Limited.
