Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) is working towards becoming an energy company and not restricting itself to selling petroleum products. IOCL has introduced compressed natural gas (CNG) spiked with 18 per cent hydrogen that eliminates the need to replace the old BS-IV fleet of vehicles. The fuel gives emissions compliant with superior BS-VI grade. At present, HCNG is being dispensed from one outlet in the Delhi. The company plans to further extend it to other outlets.

The company has a licence to retail CNG and piped cooking gas in 40 geographical areas. It has established itself as a key player in the natural gas sector in India. Currently, is also promoting the use of compressed biogas, 2-G ethanol, and biodiesel produced from used cooking oil, according to the IOCL.
