In a notable development, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has connected all industrial units in Delhi with piped natural gas (PNG). The Delhi Pollution Control Committee had issued a directive for the same in 2018. Out of the 1,644 units spread across 50 industrial areas in Delhi, 1,607 were found convertible to PNG. Thereafter, IGL successfully connected all these units with the eco-friendly PNG fuel before the deadline of January 31, 2021.
IGL is currently working towards conversion of all industrial units running on polluting fuel in the National Capital Region (NCR) to PNG with the support of respective state government authorities. The results achieved in Delhi by converting all industrial units to PNG are expected to be replicated in the entire NCR area.
