In a major development, India’s natural gas production jumped 22.7 per cent in April 2021. The increase can be attributed to Reliance Industries Limited and its partner BP Plc ramping up output from their eastern offshore KG-D6 block. India produced 2.65 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas in April 2021, up from 2.16 bcm during the same month in 2020.

The output from fields operated by the private sector and joint ventures tripled to 710.86 million standard cubic meters (mscm). The bulk of this came from 409.12 mscm output from eastern offshore fields. Meanwhile, the production of state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation’s production stood at 1.72 bcm.
