Owing to reduction in international gas prices, India’s natural gas consumption increased for the first time since May 2022. It rose by 6.4 per cent to 5.18 billion cubic meters (bcm) in January 2023 on year on year (YoY) basis.

The domestic production of natural gas increased by 4 per cent to 2.98 bcm while imports increased by 7.9 per cent to 2.27 bcm as compared to January 2022. Meanwhile, consumption of natural gas during the April-September period of 2022-23 has dropped by 4.7 per cent as compared to the corresponding period in 2021-22.
