Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) and GAIL (India) Limited have signed agreement to connect North East Natural Gas Pipeline to Barauni-Guwahati Natural Gas Pipeline at Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, Baihata and Panikhaiti in Assam to make North East pipeline a part of National Gas Grid.
Besides, the interconnecting pipeline will be laid by GAIL at an estimated cost of Rs 151.6 million.
The North-East natural gas pipeline grid involves development, operation and maintenance (O&M) of 1,656 km long natural gas pipeline connecting eight states viz. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura at an investment of Rs 92.65 billion. It is being implemented by IGGL, a joint venture (JV) company of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), GAIL (India) Limited, Oil India Limited (OIL) and Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL).
