The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) has submitted recommendations to the Government of Delhi (GoD) for the adoption of up to 20 per cent blending of compressed biogas (CBG) in compressed natural gas (CNG) as part of the Draft Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy.

IBA noted that 1 million metric standard cubic meters per day (mmscmd) of CBG can fuel nearly 350,000 vehicles, and that 2 mmscmd of CBG could meet the fuel needs of all new vehicle registrations in Delhi annually. The association also recommended phased targets for CBG blending, increasing from 5-10 per cent to 20 per cent and beyond, along with a gradual phase-out of high-polluting diesel vehicles.
