A gas pipeline project in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir was announced in the Union Budget 2020-21 along with several other key initiatives in the petroleum and natural gas sector. The project is expected to have a great impact on environment-sensitive Himalayan territory and significantly reduce wood burning in households.
It was also announced that the Ujjwala Scheme, which has already benefited 80 million households, will be extended to cover 10 million more beneficiaries. Moreover, 100 additional districts will be added to the city gas distribution network in the next three years.
